PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT & RADIO ANNOUNCER
Under the supervision of the General Manager, the Programming Assistant is responsible for administrative support of KSKO’s on-air presence. This position also involves on-air announcing, both live and pre-recorded. Writing skills are necessary, as are skills with social media and website maintenance. Training is provided, but some computer experience, popular music knowledge and willingness to share your personality on the air is essential.
While on air, radio announcers choose, identify and comment on the music played, take listener requests, interview guests, read news, talk sports, offer personal stories & flavor and manage listener contests and giveaways. It is expected that the announcers will follow FCC rules and guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Generate automation logs in Natural Music software and load them into the automation system for execution.
Import weekly Hit Disc music into the automation, sorting the songs into their appropriate categories and deleting duplicates.
Assist the General Manager in the maintenance of KSKO’s website.
Post fun and interesting things to KSKO’s Facebook page, via Buffer software.
On the air, you’ll research and create much of your own content. You’ll also read news, weather, local messages and promote KSKO’s other programming.
Make promotional appearances at local events, as needed.
Assist with fundraising events and preparation.
Fill in as needed on the air and in the office.
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Computer Skills. Basic familiarity with Windows computers. Ability to manipulate and maintain a database. Experience with social media. Word processing. Sound file editing.
Interpersonal Skills. Ability to conduct simple interviews on-air. Friendly telephone demeanor. Brainstorming. Friendly debates on news, music, issues, social media content, etc.
Research Skills. Experience with web searching for on-air content gathering.
Speaking Skills. Relaxed, well-controlled voice with good pronunciation.
Writing Skills. Strong grammar and language abilities. Creativity to contribute to the station.
This position is supervised by the General Manager of KSKO. It is a part time position, approximately 20-25 hours per week, at $16 per hour. Applications are available at the KSKO studios at 70 Chinana Avenue from 9am-4pm weekdays.
